How is ADHD diagnosed?

At Foveo Healthcare, We reccomend getting tested at an ADHD clinic prior to continuing treatment with one of our providers. Once your testing is complete one of our providers at Foveo Healthcare will perform a comprehensive initial evaluation at your first visit, which typically takes about 60 minutes to complete. This diagnostic assessment helps your provider determine which mental health or behavioral services you need and will offer you a customized plan of care.

After brief introductions, your provider reviews your medical and family history before discussing your symptoms. During this evaluation, they analyze your appearance, attitude, behavior, speech, movements, mood, cognitive abilities, and more.

Based on your comprehensive evaluation, the team makes treatment recommendations that may include a combination of therapy, diet and lifestyle changes, and medication.

Which ADHD treatments are available?

Your provider works with you to create an individualized treatment plan that best suits you. Some of the most common ADHD treatments are:

Behavioral interventions

Behavioral therapy is especially important for those suffering from ADHD during early childhood, as the disorder can affect one's ability to reach their full academic potential in school.

Praise, reward systems, and setting realistic goals for you, both at home and in school, can help you succeed academically and socially.

Medication

Although central nervous system (CNS) stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin can improve your ability to concentrate and focus on completing tasks, while nonstimulants like Strattera and Pamelor may help with memory retention and attention. Stimulants alone are not always the answer. When combined with behavioral therapy and lifestyle changes, medication can give you or you the right tools to succeed.

The Foveo Healthcare team has a broad range of experience in treating ADHD. For more information, call the practice or schedule an appointment online.
